There is a very good news for the EV Vehicle owners living in Bengaluru. The IT Hub of India is getting more new public charging stations very soon.
As per the latest reports BESCOM – Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited has given a tender to JIO BP or Reliance BP for installation of 225 public charging stations across the Bengaluru. As per the tender, JIO BP will install, 150 Charging stations in Bengaluru City whereas 75 charging stations in Rural areas of Bangalore very soon.
The BESCOM official said – “They have awarded the tender for the installation of charging stations to the JIO BP in October month and they have agreed to install 150 charging stations in City and 75 across rural Bengaluru. Currently they are doing a survey for identification of the land for setting up the infrastructure and once the survey is completed, they will sign a 10-Year contract with the land owners or even they may buy it. The bid will be INR 2.19 per unit.”
The average cost of setting up an Electric Vehicle Charging station in Bengaluru is around 40-50 lakh, according to the recent prices and estimates.
Meanwhile, BESCOM is planning to set-up 1,190 EV charging stations across Karnataka through PPP – Public Private Partnership model. These stations will have both AC and DC chargers in equal amount and most of these charging stations will located on government areas or property.
As per the central government guidelines, nodal agencies are directed to pay a minimum of Rs 1/unit for charging services, and BESCOM has awarded the tender to the bidders who have exceeded this rate. Each station will have 10KW AC 001 chargers, 7.5KW type 2 chargers, and 60KW CCS2 chargers this will allow charging of 2 vehicles at a same time.
BESCOM charges approximately 7.38 Rs/unit for their charging services whereas JIO BP charges 15.99 Rs/unit in other locations. A representative has explained that the higher charges by JIO is to ensure its profitability and to cover up the investments done in setting up these stations.
As of today February 16, 2024, Karnataka is the leading state in the country for EV Charging infrastructure having a total of 5,059 charging stations followed by Maharashtra having 3,079 stations and Delhi in third position having 1,886 stations. These developments indicates the robust EV charging network in India, promoting the adoption of electric vehicles and reducing carbon footprints from the world.
